One Pen, Many nibs: Choice of Additional Nibs:
Keeping in line with the Osprey philosophy of interchangeable nib units, a wide variety of nib units are offered below that will work with this pen. Click on the hyperlinked choices to learn more about the nibs.
All ultra-flex and Zebra G nib units come with ebonite feed. Size 5.5 Ultra-flex, Zebra G Flex and Titanium Ultra-flex are non-cartridge type, meaning they do not take any prefilled ink cartridges or international converters. They are made to work with custom Osprey converters. Size 6 Ultra-flex nib units (second generation) on the other hand, take both, cartridge or converter, which means you can use prefilled ink cartridges or use bottled ink.
If you choose #5.5Ultra-flex or Zebra G flex nib-units/assemblies, be sure to add a nib-block kit , if you don't already have one. You can download a maintenance guide that helps in easy disassembly and assembly, when the feeds get clogged over time with use. The nib block does not accommodate size 6 nibs, you will instead need to use the grip provided in the kit for disassembly and assembly.
I ordered this after struggling with some conversions to put a 'G' nib in something else. It's nice to have a purpose-built nib unit such that everything fits together correctly. And, it's hard to find something with a legitimate pointed flex nib for doing styles like Spencerian cursive. (There are other options for fine, EF, etc.)
I do find it's pretty sensitive to which ink I use. The Noodler's Black that comes with the pen works well but TBH it's pretty boring. Lamy Blue and Diamine Sherwood Green both had a tendency to dry and clog and Platinum Carbon Black was pretty bad. Noodler's Black Swan in Australian Roses is working really well and looks great.
I also find I have to be careful with the converter. If I run the piston all the way to the bottom, the spring tends to get stuck on the seal. Probably doesn't matter that much with something as wet as Noodler's, but...
I have been so pleased with Osprey Pen’s products, and this pen is no exception! I have multiple Milano pens and this is my first Scholar. It is extremely comfortable to hold and use, beautiful rich color and design. Writing and drawing with it is a joy, Osprey Pens just keeps me coming back for more!
Love the looks, love how it writes (with Zebra G nib). I even bought another one in different color.
But I got the custom converter leak on my first one and they dont sell the custom converter, so I emailed them and they want me to call them before they can send me the replacement.
I hope there are no more leaks, because it is not so convenient to get a replacement custom converter if you need one.
Still love the pen though.
